In Loving Memory of Rumel Barua
Rumel Barua (1986 – 2019) was one of the key members & the finest performer in Fame. While studying towards the end of his graduation, Rumel joined in the 13th batch of Fame’s Dramatics Department in 2009. Perhaps he found a place for his talent and mind. His acting career began after completing a six-month long Theatre Appreciation Course. He proved himself with his talent, hard work and practice, has introduced himself in new ways every time in the plays like Bandh, Shob Jhore Jay, Trio, George Dandin, Raktakarabi, Muktir Upay, Oedipus, Oedipus at Colonus, Antigone, Nawkar Shoytaan Malik Hoyraan, Caligula, The Hope and Gondar. He has presented his personality on stage more than two hundred times. He worked as an assistant behind the scenes in Amriter Shondhane and The Lesson. Left his footstep as a teacher of Fame’s children’s drama department, participated as co-director in the play ‘Ghudi’.
Like every student, Rumel also wanted to spread the knowledge he has acquired among others, through which he can test himself and enrich himself a little more. Following this thread, he founded the theatre group ‘Bhranta Shampraday’ with some friends on August 2011. In an effort to become a skilled craftsman, he left his mark in this arena. Here, he acted in the play ‘Bhranta-Shambhranta’ and at the same time directed and acted in the plays ‘Paygam’ and ‘The Game’. Outside this circle, he directed the plays ‘Ekattorer Khudiram’ and ‘Beej’ at Government City College and Government Commerce College. Along with this, he directed the plays ‘Mahajagatik Research Club’ and ‘Totakahini’r Porer Kahini’ at the Shishu-Kishore Mela held in Charan and acted in the play ‘Pritilata’ produced by Charan.
Although Rumel was a total theatre devotee, he did not stop only on the stage. He also joined the celluloid frame. His short films include ‘Paap’, ‘The Adventurer’ and ‘Pataka’; acted in the TV drama ‘Tabuo Bhor Hobe’ and the music video ‘Why did you do it’. He has acted in the full-length film ‘Alga Nongor’ which is awaiting release.
Growing up amidst his creativity moves us, making us think that An Artist was dedicated to the Art all his life.
